Phoenix, United States - May 30, 2025 05/30/2025 01:53 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to preliminary information, a Department of Public Safety trooper in an unmarked vehicle was near the Motel 6 on Thomas Road near the I-17 when they observed a shooting. The trooper requested additional units as a vehicle involved in the shooting fled the motel parking lot. Both Phoenix police and DPS troopers responded to the area. The Phoenix Police Department helicopter arrived overhead quickly and began tracking the fleeing vehicle. All marked units fell back to a safe distance as Tactical Support Bureau (TSB) units responded to the area. The car drove northbound on I-17 from Thomas and exited at Bethany Home Road, then circled the area of 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road before returning southbound on I-17. The car exited at Jefferson Road, where TSB units deployed a Grappler Police Bumper, disabling the suspect's vehicle. The suspect exited the car and complied with officers' instructions before being taken into custody. A passenger inside the car was also detained. At the Motel 6, several shell casings were seen at the front entrance to the parking lot. It is unclear if anyone was injured in the shooting. The Phoenix Police Department is taking the lead in the investigation.
