MEETING OF ARAB MINISTERS WITH KING ABDULLAH II OF JORDANRESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “THE ROYAL HASHEMITE COURT” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY— AMMAN, JORDAN - JUNE 1: Jordan’s King Abdullah II met with a delegation of Arab foreign ministers in the capital Amman on Sunday, Jun 1, and emphasized the importance of their role in rallying international support to end the Gaza war. A delegation comprising the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, along with senior Arab officials, was scheduled to meet with Palestinian officials Sunday in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. The ministers’ planned visit was intended to discuss steps to support Palestinian statehood and address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. However, the planned face-to-face meetings with Palestinian officials could not take place because Israel did not allow the ministers to enter the area. Following the disruption of the planned meeting by Israel, King Abdullah hosted the delegation and in the meeting he emphasized the role that Arab countries, as well as the international community, must play in bringing an end to the war. According to the daily Yedioth Ahronoth, Israeli officials have confirmed that Tel Aviv prevented a scheduled visit by a delegation of Arab foreign ministers to Ramallah, where they intended to discuss support for the establishment of a Palestinian state. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has pursued a devastating offensive in Gaza since October 2023, killing over 54,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Aid agencies have warned about the risk of famine among the enclave's population. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
