Storyline: Israeli forces were accused of attacking an aid distribution site in the Al-Mawasi area in southern Gaza Strip on Sunday morning, despite its designation as a humanitarian safe zone following an evacuation order issued by Israel the previous day. The attack at the U.S.-backed aid distribution point killed at least 22 Palestinians and injured another 115, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the Israeli side was "unaware of injuries" and the matter is under investigation. The IDF just issued a new evacuation order on Saturday for Rafah and Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. According to a post published by IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee on social media, the order urged the immediate evacuation of Palestinian residents in these areas westward to the Al-Mawasi area. IDF stated that Palestinian groups continue launching rockets from these areas, prompting the Israeli army to prepare a robust response. Meanwhile, Israel's military on Saturday confirmed the killing of Mohammed Sinwar, a senior Hamas commander and head of the group's military wing in Gaza, in an airstrike earlier this month. In a joint statement, the IDF and the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency said Sinwar was killed on May 13 in a targeted strike on an underground command center in southern Gaza. Hamas has not issued an official statement confirming Sinwar's death. Gaza health officials said the death toll from Israel's military campaign since October 7 has reached 54,381, with 124,054 wounded. Since the resumption of hostilities on March 18, 4,117 people have been killed and 12,013 injured, the authorities said. Shotlist: Gaza Strip - May 16-17, 2025: 1.
