A monitor lizard held up pedestrians as it slowly sauntered across a road.

Footage shows the wild reptile taking its time to walk through the Lumphini Park in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 1.

Some joggers and visitors stopped to take pictures of it.

But the laid-back creature ignored people and moved along as it moved towards a lake.

The filmer said: 'The monitor lizard held up foot traffic to cross a road. There were lots of joggers and walkers in the park at the time.

'But he was oblivious to them all and just sauntered across. People stopped to watch.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
