Elderly man and dog killed in Missouri house explosion caught on doorbell camera

An elderly man and his dog were killed in a home explosion which was captured on their neighbor's Ring doorbell camera.

The explosion happened around 11:15am on May 31st, on 74th Terrace, Gladstone, Missouri.

Ashleigh Tomlin, 47, was in the kitchen, while her husband, William Tomlin, 54, and three children, aged 20,19, and 17, were in another room.

She said she felt the floor move under her feet and thought they were "being attacked"."

The explosion was so big, the kitchen light fixture fell off the ceiling and hit Ashleigh on the head.

Ashleigh, her husband and three children managed to get out of the property with the help of police.

Her neighbor, Richard Adams Sr, 86, died in the explosion alongside his dog.

The cause of the explosion is currently being investigated by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office.

Ashleigh, a nurse from Gladstone, Missouri, said: "I thought we were under attack, I thought bombs were going off."

"I have never experienced a sound like that in my life."

"It was heart-wrenching. The kitchen ceiling light fell and hit me on the head."

"All I could think about was my kids."

"We were pulling animals and kids out of the house as fast as we could."

Ashleigh paid tribute to her neighbor, Richard, who sadly passed away in the explosion.

She said he was the "heart of the community" and always ready to help anyone out."

Ashleigh said: "He was the nicest man you could ever meet."

"Our dogs played together in the backyard."

"He was the heart of the community, I don't know this neighborhood without him."

"It is really sad, it is gut-wrenching what has happened."
