A bungling motorcycle rider going the wrong way almost crashes into an oncoming car at a flyover.

Footage shows the motorist suddenly appearing on a curved road as he counterflowed in at Bang Yai-Kanchanaburi Expressway on May 25.

He had his front light on full beam as he waved through, narrowly missing a collision as the driver swerved and slowed down.

The startled driver honked and braked as the two-wheeler sped past him on the right corner lane.

Driver Jurinmas Bungerd said: 'He was driving against traffic on the M81 Bang Yai-Kanchanaburi Expressway. It was really reckless.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
