VARIOUS OF PALESTINIANS CARRYING BODIESKHAN YOUNIS, PALESTINE - JUNE 3, 2025: Funerals were held Tuesday, June 3, in southern Gaza for 24 Palestinians killed in an Israeli strike that targeted civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in Rafah. Dozens more were wounded, including children, and were transferred to Nasser Hospital in the city of Khan Younis for treatment. While Israel has previously denied responsibility for similar incidents, the Israeli military acknowledged carrying out the strike. In a written statement, the army claimed those approaching the aid distribution point were “suspicious,” adding that warning shots were fired into the air before the attack. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has pursued a devastating offensive in Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 54,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Aid agencies have warned about the risk of famine among the enclave's more than 2 million. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
