Meet the harvest mouse that camps, sails, and dines in doll-sized style
Meet the harvest mouse that spends its days sailing tiny boats, lounging by a miniature pool and eating breakfast at a doll-sized table.
Mr Jingles, named after the beloved rodent in Stephen King's The Green Mile, is an adorable two-inch fluffy brown mouse living with his devoted owner Martin Critchlow, 57.
Martin builds intricate miniature sets to bring Mr Jingles' playful world to life.
He regularly records the mouse's adventures and shares them with their 400,000 followers on social media.
In the videos, Mr Jingles is often seen relaxing by his toy pool, sailing in a tiny boat with a fake fish on the line or camping in his own little tent.
Martin, a scaffolder from King's Lynn, Norfolk, said: "I've had people message me saying the videos have cheered them up, that they've helped them through tough times."
"It gives me real joy knowing a tiny mouse can make such a big difference."
Martin has been breeding harvest mice for over a decade to help replenish their declining UK population and currently houses around 60 in his specially adapted mouse haven.
He started recording Mr Jingles' adventures a lockdown after being encouraged by his grandson, who helped him learn to use TikTok and video editing.
Martin said: "It all started because of my grandson. "
"He downloaded the app for me and helped me upload a few videos. "
"I forgot all about it but then checked back and had hundreds of followers. "
"I was gobsmacked."
Now Martin films and posts videos online every day with storylines and miniature props often inspired by everyday life.
Martin said: "It could be something I see on telly or just an idea while I'm out in my lorry."
"The boat video came from me watching Jaws one night and thinking ‘What if Jingles caught something instead?."
Other videos show Mr Jingles on top of a tiny chair playing a lifeguard and watching its babies "swimming" in a doll-sized paddling pool. "
One of Mr Jingles' most popular videos shows him dramatically trying to rescue a cat with Martin's partner providing the meowing sound effects.
Martin said: "I don't know how I got my wife involved."
"She was doing the cat noises and I couldn't stop laughing."
"Mr Jingles has got a big personality. "
He loves going on adventures whether that's driving a toy fire engine, chilling by the pool or playing lifeguard for his babies.
"He especially loves his helicopter rescues."
"He's always on standby."
Martin added: "It's nice knowing something so small can make people's day."
"I never thought I'd be doing this I'm old-school. "
"But now I've got a mouse riding toy helicopters and rescuing cats. "
"I've had messages from people saying the videos helped them through hard times. "
"That makes it all worth it."
