Plane dumps retardant on grass fire in Fairfield, California

This is the dramatic moment a firefighting plane drops retardant on a grass fire in Fairfield, California.

Footage shows the aircraft releasing the substance from the burning landscape.

The Vista Grande Fire was first reported at around 3:45 pm on Monday, June 2, near Vista Grande and Capitola Way. Authorities said the blaze burned more than 60 acres.

Fairfield police described the flames as a 'significant threat to life and property'.

No injuries or major property damage were reported.

Evacuation orders had been issued for several neighbourhoods, including Palmer Circle, Bear Creek Drive, Cherry Valley Circle, Longview Drive, Skyview Circle, and Shelter Hill Drive. All orders were later lifted.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
