ABU AMSHA SHOWING THEIR TENT FROM OUTSIDE/ INTERIOR SHOT OF TENT/ ABU AMSHA SHOWS AROUND INSIDE TENT 3. ABU AMSHA SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic) 4. PALESTINIAN BOY EXAMINING ITEM/ CLOSE SHOT OF BOY'S BARE FEET IN SLIPPERS 5. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) 79-YEAR-OLD PALESTINIAN MAN, ADIL SHAMIYA SAYING: “I’m 79 years old. I’ve been living in complete misery. This is the worst situation we’ve ever experienced. I have never seen a war where they cut off food supplies from the people. I have disabled children, and I have nothing to feed them — not even a piece of bread. I call on all Arab and foreign countries, and every human being in this world. I especially appeal to Arab states that normalized relations with Israel — stop them. Pressure them to allow food aid in... this is the worst Eid I’ve ever experienced. There’s no food, no joy — nothing to sustain us. Eid used to be a time of happiness, especially for the children. But now, it’s only destruction. How can we prepare food? I’ve been sitting here since yesterday with just a few kilos of flour and some fat. How are we supposed to celebrate Eid like this? We don’t have food. We don’t have anything. Our children are dying. Oh world, oh Arab countries, oh foreign countries — our children are dying in front of our eyes. We have nothing left." 6. CLOSE SHOT OF GIRL HOLDING BABY 7. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) 72-YEAR-OLD PALESTINIAN WOMAN, AISHA ABU SALAH, SAYING: "They don’t have money for Eid or anything. Where can they get money? There’s nothing, no money, no work, no sacrifices, no relief anywhere. God willing, God willing, we will return to our roots, return to our peace and stay in peace."GAZA, PALESTINE - JUN. 2: Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who have long been subjected to heavy attacks, starvation, and forced displacement, once again, will observe the upcoming Eid al-Adha under the shadow of the Israeli genocide. The attacks and destruction left by Israel in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, erased any signs of joy for the upcoming Eid celebration even before it began. While the city streets, now reduced to rubble, have become places of refuge for Palestinians repeatedly forced to flee, there is no trace of Eid cheer on the faces of those weakened by hunger amid the piles of debris on street corners. This year, Palestinians approach Eid far from the sweet bustle of buying new clothes or preparing sacrifices, living instead in primitive tents where there is no privacy or dignity to shield them from the summer heat or winter cold. Eid arrives amid an atmosphere of constant bombardment, widespread destruction, lack of income, and a complete cutoff of humanitarian aid, while the population struggles to meet the most basic survival needs. Homes in Gaza have been leveled by Israeli airstrikes. Once adorned with Eid decorations, walls, and doorways now lie in rubble. Streets that once bustled with families shopping for clothes and gifts are scenes of devastation and grief. “This is the worst situation we’ve ever experienced,” said 79-year-old Adil Shamiye, displaced from Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza. “I have never seen a war where they cut off food supplies from the people.” Shamiye said children are dying from hunger and that this year’s Eid is the most tragic of all. “Eid used to be a time of happiness, especially for the children. But now, it’s only destruction,” he said. “ We don’t have anything. Our children are dying. Oh world, oh Arab countries, oh foreign countries — our children are dying in front of our eyes. We have nothing left.” According to the latest data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, since October 7, 2023, 60 Palestinian children have died from malnutrition caused by the Israeli siege. For 72-year-old Aisha Abu Salah, also living in a tent, the holiday brings no comfort. In poor health and without access to basic services, she said many have neither money nor animals to fulfill the ritual of sacrifice. “There’s nothing, no money, no work, no sacrifices, no relief anywhere,” she said. Still, Abu Salah held onto a glimmer of hope: “we will return to our roots, return to our peace and stay in peace.” The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 54,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
