Youngsters were left terrified when they discovered thousands of flying termites swarming their kitchen in the middle of the night.

Footage shows the creepy scene as the insects cluster under the light, covering the ceiling and walls in Albay, Philippines.

The winged bugs were also seen crawling on the counter, windows and the floor.

Angelica Cana said: ‘Oh my god, what is this? It's already an invasion. Look at them, they are too big. That doesn't look normal.'

The teenagers turned off the lights, hoping to disperse the mass, but many of the termites remained on May 31.

Angelica added: ‘It was almost midnight, my roommate and I were just browsing our phones when suddenly we saw flying termites.

‘We thought that there were only a few of them; however, after we checked where they were coming from, we saw a bunch of them under the light bulb.'

Flying termites often emerge in large numbers following rain showers, which create ideal conditions of warm, moist air, soft soil, and minimal wind for swarming and establishing new colonies.
