DAMASCUS, SYRIA - JUNE 4, 2025: Syria raised its largest national flag on the tallest flagpole in Damascus, drawing a crowd to Tishreen Park in the capital on Wednesday, June 4. The flag, measuring 600 square meters, was hoisted on a 110-meter pole, making it a prominent symbol of national pride. Bashar Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, 2024, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963. President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who led anti-regime forces to oust Assad, was declared president for a transitional period in late January.
