China: China's first offshore carbon capture, utilization, storage project starts operation
Storyline: Crab farmers embrace peak harvest season in S China [Voice_over] It's peak harvest season for blue crab farmers in the Nansha district of south China's Guangzhou. As one of the country's major blue crab production areas, the district's output for blue crab is double what it was last year, farmers say. This year's favorable weather is boosting blue crab growth, with production expected to rise. [Sound_bite] Zheng Bingcai, crab farmer: "The harvest season has begun, the blue crab includes butter crab, roe crab, meat crab and young female crab. The yield is expected to be about 10 percent higher than the last year. And the crabs are being snapped up by wholesalers the moment they're unloaded from the boats." [Voice_over] Despite the increased output, market demand continues to outpace supply during peak season. On this day, wholesale buyers arrived at dawn to secure their shipments, which are dispatched to seafood markets nationwide within hours. [Sound_bite] Liu Leji, crab trader: "Butter crabs are relatively rare, so we have to arrive early to secure our supply. These butter crabs here were handpicked from hundreds of kilograms of blue crabs—we might only found about 70-80 of them. While prices have remained stable, we've observed a 30 percent increase in sales volume year-over-year." [Voice_over] Nansha Blue Crab is now a nationally recognized specialty, driving both revenue and influence, with farm prices nearly doubling since 2020. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
