Hikers clung onto rocks and tufts of grass on the ground to battle through intense winds on the way to the summit.

Footage shows the mountaineers crawling on the hillside to keep themselves from being swept away by gusts at Mount Batulao in Batangas, the Philippines.

The nature explorers had to slow down as a storm blew in the opposite direction.

Thick fog concealed the view from the cliff, but the group arrived at the top safely.

Climber Rijina Banes said: 'As a beginner at hiking, I didn't know what to prepare, so I didn't check the weather forecast.

'Before the hike, I even came straight from work, had dinner with my coworkers, and only got about two hours of sleep before heading to the pick-up point.

'I did get some sleep during the trip, but I was still tired. When we arrived at the jump-off point, it was raining with some wind, but it wasn't too strong.

'At first, I felt sad because I thought the hike might get cancelled and my money would go to waste, but it pushed through.

'As we walked, it was scary because we couldn't see anything on the trail except for the fog, but we just kept going.

'We kept climbing even though we weren't sure if we could make it back down.

'We did make it down safely, but I went home with some bruises and scrapes.'
