A hero hacker exposed an alleged scam hub in the Philippines by livestreaming their operations on YouTube.

The cyber vigilante, who identified himself as 'mrwn', tapped into the security camera system of the call centre in Cebu on March 19.

CCTV footage shows rows of Filipino agents contacting individuals to lure them into an investment scam.

Mrwn said he trolled them by calling and sending them real-time photos of them while walking around in the office.

The shocking boiler room expose sparked police investigations that led to the shutdown of the company, BMJ Data Processing Services, on May 20.

Authorities said the alleged scammers targeted victims in South America to convince them to invest in a non-existent AI company through a fake website.

Assistant Secretary Renato Paraiso, spokesman for the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), said in a press conference: 'We'll have to investigate further, but the investigation of 'mrwn', has provided good leads and in fact we have several persons of interest already that we would pursue our investigation.'

The Philippine government official said the DICT does not tolerate hacking - despite it being used for a good cause in this case.

He added: 'We don't condone hacking, but in his video he said that he's taking matters into his own hands because he reached out to government agencies, and apparently he didn't like the response of the government.

'Instead of stepping in and taking matters into their own hands, content creators now have a willing partner in government that would share their advocacy and goal to put a stop to these scammers.'

In his YouTube bio, mrwn said he investigates scams and exposes them. He said he was inspired by other YouTubers like Scambaiter and Jim Browning, who are also known for publicly exposing fraudulent activities and scam call centres.
