An American tourist was arrested for allegedly exchanging movie prop money at a currency booth in Thailand.

Jeffrey Stookey Sr., 66, reportedly tried to trade the counterfeit 100 USD banknotes for Thai baht at the T.T. Currency Exchange booth in Pattaya on June 3.

The worker turned him down when she noticed the cash clearly marked with the words 'For Motion Picture Use Only', but the American allegedly insisted the bills were legitimate.

When she refused the exchange, Jeffrey was understood to have grown increasingly agitated, prompting her to call the police.

Cops arrived and arrested the American, who is now facing charges of 'counterfeit currency with knowledge of its falsity'. They seized from him 21 fake 100 USD bills.

Police Colonel Anek Sathongyu, superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, said: 'The suspect's history shows that he has been travelling in and out of Thailand for the past 10 years. He has a Thai wife from the northeastern region and he resides on Phra Tamnak Hill in Pattaya.

‘Currently, he has been detained for legal proceedings.'
