A school bus crashed into a cement truck injuring 20 students in Thailand.

The vehicle overturned after smashing into an oncoming truck on the way to school in Prachinburi on June 4.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a report at 7:15 am. They found the bus flipped over on the roadside while the yellow cement truck had a dented bumper.

Authorities said 16 students suffered minor injuries while four were rushed to a hospital for cuts and swelling on their heads.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Dech Phummisathan of the Ra Bo Pai Police said: 'We have taken photos and collected all evidence at the scene.

‘Both drivers will be summoned for further questioning to determine the cause of the accident. Legal action will be taken to help prevent such incidents from happening again.'

Local district chief Chutamart Buaphuan has visited the injured schoolchildren at the hospital.

Kittipol Kitdee, head of the cement truck company, has promised to shoulder the students' medical expenses.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
