On June 3rd, in a residential community in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, an elevator safety incident occurred due to improper action by a parent.

A woman attempted to block the elevator doors on the 28th floor using a child’s toy shovel, trying to keep the elevator in place while she returned home to retrieve something. However, the elevator did not detect the small shovel, the doors closed forcibly, and the elevator began to move. The shovel became stuck, causing the elevator to stop operating — with her child trapped inside the cabin.

Property management staff arrived within 10 minutes and manually opened the elevator doors to rescue the child. Fortunately, no one was injured.

A staff member explained that the elevator’s sensor could not detect such a small object. “It’s lucky the child is safe — if the elevator had fallen due to the malfunction, the consequences could’ve been serious.” The elevator is currently out of service and damaged. Compensation is still being discussed with the resident.
