The community of South Sumpur Kudus, West Sumatra, Indonesia, worked together to install a solar power system on the roof of the Buya Syafii Maarif Mosque — from lifting the solar panels onto the roof to completing the installation. This environmentally friendly power installation is their initiative to reduce reliance on electricity from the national grid, which is still largely generated from non-renewable sources.

The solar power system consists of 10 panels, supporting an electricity demand of 3,500 VA, and is backed by a 9,600-watt battery.

This solar power solution also addresses the frequent power outages in their area, which is located near hilly terrain. These blackouts had been disrupting worship activities at the mosque.

Now, the Buya Syafii Maarif Mosque primarily relies on solar electricity, with the national grid used only as a backup during cloudy days when sunlight is limited
