Wildlife volunteer removes fishing line tightly wrapped around goose's leg
A wildlife volunteer managed to capture a goose after she spotted a fishing line was caught on its leg.
They told Newsflare: "I am a volunteer wildlife rehabber who specializes in waterfowl. I love them, and dedicate all my spare time to helping them. I remove fishing line, I raising orphans, I provide care for injured birds, as well as any other wildlife in need.
"I was notified of a Canada goose with line on its leg in a local park. When we arrived at the park all the birds were in the water. As we got out of the car all the birds got out except one. I knew that was my target. Geese often are segregated when they are injured.
"My husband was getting things from the car to help as I approached the goose, but he quickly saw I didn't need help so he began filming. I put out some treats for the goose and waited for my moment.
"When the goose wasn't watching me I grabbed it and held it against my body, taking a bit of a beating in the process. Once it calmed down I was easily able to tuck it under my arm and wrap it in a towel and get to work. I removed the line, checked the wound, and sent it on its way. Another success in the books.
"Unfortunately as a rehabber you usually have more failures than successes so I wanted to share this one and raise awareness to the issue of discarded fishing gear. After releasing the happy goose we walked the park picking up garbage, fishing lures and lines!"
