This is the shocking moment an alleged Chinese scammer escaped from a police station during questioning.

Li Jian, 38, leapt from the open window of the second-floor room while being grilled by cops in Pattaya, Thailand, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

CCTV footage shows the suspect in a white shirt plummeting to the ground before bolting toward the street.

An officer in red was seen also dropping from the building. He struck a chair and lay on the ground in pain for a few seconds, then sprinted after the fleeing tourist.

Police Colonel Anek Sathongyu, superintendent of the Pattaya City Police Station, said officers launched a manhunt but failed to find Li, who is believed to be injured from the fall.

Police Major General Thawatchakiat Jindakhuansong, commander of the Chonburi Provincial Police, said: 'I have ordered the suspect to be caught as soon as possible to protect public confidence in the police.'

Li is wanted for fraud on a warrant issued by the Pattaya provincial court.

He reportedly tricked his friend into depositing the Tether cryptocurrency, which matches the price of the American dollar, worth 38,712 USD into his account in exchange for 178,000 yuan (18,300 GBP).

However, he disappeared from the Thai Sin City without paying after the digital currency was credited.

Police caught him at the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok on Wednesday, June 4, as he was boarding a plane to Da Nang, Vietnam on Air Asia flight FD638. He was then taken to the police station where he escaped from.
