Man fascinated as dung beetle digs hole to bury dung ball just inches from his feet
On May 2nd, in the Karamaili Desert Park in Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang, a man captured fascinating footage of a dung beetle digging a hole in the sand to bury its dung ball.
Dung beetles feed on animal feces, which are rich in organic matter and nutrients — a vital energy source for them. They roll the feces into balls for easier transport and storage. Female dung beetles also lay their eggs inside these balls, providing a safe, nutrient-rich environment for their larvae. The organic content in the dung balls supports the growth and development of the young beetles.
