China: Smart machinery boosts agricultural production efficiency across China
Storyline: Smart machinery boosts agricultural production efficiency across China [Voice_over] As part of a larger plan to digitize its agriculture industry, China is using the latest technology to usher in an era of modern farming. In Qingyuan City of south China's Guangdong Province, drones with AI vision models are helping farmers manage their rice fields. The drones help identify crop height and plant infestations or disease, and then conduct pest control measures, or assist in irrigation. In Beijing's suburban Changping District, meanwhile, driverless tractors are planting corn at another high-tech smart farm. This year, the equipment has been upgraded for automatic seeding. [Sound_bite] Sun Xiangming, head, smart farm: "During the seeding proves, the control system must work in joint debugging and adaptation with the seeding machine. A series of sensors on the seeding machine indicate when the vehicle should begin seeding." [Voice_over] And in Kunshan City of east China's Jiangsu Province, an AI monitoring system is being used to manage irrigation and drainage channels. Farmers say the smart management system allows all facilities to be managed from one central location. Last October, China launched a five-year action plan to accelerate the digital transformation of its entire agriculture industrial chain as part of measures to raise domestic food production. Officials said the plan aims to establish a digital planting technology scheme, together with a national agricultural and rural big data platform by the year 2028.
