HEBRON, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - JUNE 6, 2025: West Bank Palestinians performed Eid Al-Adha prayers in Hebron's Ibrahimi Mosque on Friday, June 6, despite ongoing Israeli occupation and attacks. Palestinians made their way to the mosque, passing through steel cages and metal turnstiles at Israeli checkpoints after enduring long waits under heavy restrictions. Palestine’s former Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Hatem Al-Bakri, spoke in an interview with Anadolu at the mosque. Hebron’s director of religious endowments, Munjid al-Jabari, said in a statement that Israeli authorities once again refused to fully open the mosque for Muslim worshippers, including its eastern gate. “This is the seventh time this year they’ve denied us full access, including Fridays in Ramadan and both Eid celebrations,” he said. “We refuse to accept partial control over the holy site.” Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, marks the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca or Hajj, during which Muslims slaughter goats, sheep and other animals. The Hajj pilgrimage is the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith which must be performed by all Muslims if financially viable at least once in their lives. It includes several rituals meant to symbolize the essential concepts of the Islamic faith and to commemorate the trials of Prophet Abraham and his family. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis.
