Dozens of worshippers gathered at the Islamic Cultural Center in the Ukrainian capital on Friday, June 6, to perform the traditional Eid prayer, upholding the religious tradition despite the challenges of war. Eid al-Adha, or the "Festival of Sacrifice," commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) unwavering devotion to God, as he was prepared to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) before God provided a ram instead. The occasion also marks the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, one of the Five Pillars of Islam. During the festival, Muslims who can afford it perform Qurbani (sacrifice) of an animal, distributing the meat among family, friends, and the less fortunate—a practice emphasizing charity and community solidarity.
