Passenger shocked to see tourist burning necklace in plane seat
This is the shocking moment a tourist used a lighter to burn a necklace and stick the pieces back together during a flight.
The AirAsia flight from Bangkok, Thailand, was about to land at Vientiane, Laos, when the man was seen holding his jewellery over a flame in his seat on June 2.
Footage shows the passenger, believed to be from China, heating the damaged chain to do the DIY repair while inside the plane.
He was seated by the window on flight FD1040 while he fused the broken parts of the accessory.
Paul Perchecco, who was sitting on the opposite side of the aisle, said: ‘At first, he lit a lighter to fix a string that was holding his amulet.
‘I thought he would just do it once, but he did it many times, so I recorded a video as evidence for the flight attendant.'
The concerned flyer called the cabin crew oboard the Airbus A320 to check, which Paul said happened ten minutes before landing.
He said: ‘I pressed the call button on the ceiling to get the flight attendant's attention.
‘She quickly came over and told him to stop, then went back to her seat and fastened her seatbelt because the plane was about to descend.
‘She thanked me for reporting it and turned to tell the Chinese man not to do it anymore. It didn't seem very serious, and they didn't confiscate the lighter, just told him to stop since the plane was descending.'
Paul added that he made other passengers uncomfortable, so they moved away from him.
He said: ‘He was sitting in A, the woman in the clip was in B, and I was in C.
‘There was an empty seat in the E row, so I moved there, and the woman also shifted away from him.'
