Floodwaters swamped a bridge during heavy downpours in the Philippines.

CCTV footage shows fast-flowing, murky water overwhelming the pathway, with only the handrail visible in San Rafael 1, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, on June 6.

Village council chairman Edmon Daluz said the rain began around 3 pm, and within 45 minutes, a deluge surged through the area as a nearby creek overflowed.

Edmon said: 'It was really fast. We were caught off guard since this hasn't happened in a while, maybe because our area's a catch basin and a lot of garbage ended up here.'

Officials reported that the flooding caused by a low-pressure area and the southwest monsoon reached chest-deep levels in parts of the village, affecting 167 families.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
