This is the dramatic moment a traffic officer went barefoot to brave heavy rain in China.

A sudden downpour struck just as students were leaving the test site during the first day of the national college entrance exam in Yiyang, Hunan, on June 7.

The storm hit around 5 pm when traffic was already heavy due to the large number of vehicles arriving to pick up students at Yiyang No. 1 High School.

Auxiliary police officer Zhang Zhiyong rushed onto the road amid the intense rain to help, fearing a dangerous traffic jam.

Footage shows the kindhearted officer - barefoot and with his trousers rolled up - directing traffic at the school's east gate.

Reports said Zhang continued working despite being soaked to the skin, guiding vehicles and maintaining order for nearly two hours.

All students and parents left the area safely.
