The United Nations headquarters organized an event in New York on Monday to celebrate the first International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations . The event organizers are the permanent missions to the United Nations of China, Egypt, Peru, Spain, Uzbekistan, and the UN Alliance of Civilizations. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said in a video message to the event that China advocates being a defender of equality among civilizations, a practitioner of exchanges among civilizations, and a promoter of progress among civilizations. In his speech, Miguel Angel Moratinos, UN under-secretary-general and High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations, praised the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and thanked China for its leading role and firm commitment in promoting dialogue among civilizations. Guests from various countries engaged in in-depth exchanges around the theme of "Stepping up exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations and strengthening international unity and cooperation." In 2024, the 78th session of the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by China and 82 other countries, designating June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations each year.
