Jacksonville, United States - March 25, 2025 A disturbing scene was uncovered on the city’s Northwest side after a drug bust led police to shocking evidence of animal cruelty. In March, SWAT and narcotics officers raided a house suspected of drug trafficking. Inside, they found cocaine, oxycodone, marijuana, and several firearms. Marquis Williams, 49, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies. But the horror did not stop there. Officers also discovered dog fighting equipment, trophies, and books on the property. Dozens of dogs were found in skyboxes and chained without water. Many suffered from open wounds, infections, and severe neglect. Some were covered in feces and fleas. Animal control officers found young raccoons and turtles in similar conditions. The most shocking discovery was a 9-foot alligator confined to a small fenced area with no water. Bones scattered in the cage suggested the alligator may have been fed other animals. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission dispatched a nuisance alligator wrangler to remove the gator safely. Williams now faces over a dozen charges related to animal abuse, dog fighting, and illegal alligator possession. He remains in Duval County jail, accused of endangering both human and animal lives.
