This is the chaotic moment a female customer refused to pay at a restaurant, claiming she was being overcharged with hidden fees.

The woman reportedly burst into a tirade as she accused staff of inflating her bill at the ramen noodles shop in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 8.

Footage shows the sunshades-wearing diner complaining about the value-added tax (VAT) charge worth 21 baht (0.5 GBP). She was reportedly heard asking: 'What is VAT?'

When staff tried to explain, she refused to listen and demanded that they recalculate her bill 'like at a 7-Eleven store'.

The penny pincher was said to have become increasingly agitated despite intervention by workers from a fuel station nearby. Staff said they were forced to call the police as she started screaming at two waitresses.

Before police could arrive, the woman allegedly tried to storm out of the restaurant, but was blocked by other diners.

She was later made to pay the full amount of 321 baht (7 GBP), vowing during the transaction that she would never to return to the restaurant.

As she left the store in a huff, she allegedly declared: 'My shirt cost 6,000 baht, and my pants cost 50,000 baht. I'm very rich.'

An onlooker said: 'The woman was wrong to berate the staff over the bill. She should have paid the correct amount. It was ridiculous that she did not even know what VAT is.'

Value-added Tax (VAT) is a tax added to the price of goods and services at each step of production or sale. The VAT rate is 7 per cent in Thailand.

Sometimes it is included in the displayed price while restaurant or bars may add it onto the final amount, though the extra charge must be clealery displayed on the menu.
