Police uncover drugs, alligator and dog fighting ring at home in Jacksonville
Police uncovered suspected cocaine, an alligator, and a dog fighting operation during a drugs bust at a home in Jacksonville, Florida.
SWAT and narcotics officers raided the residence, which was under investigation for drug trafficking, on May 20.
Authorities allegedly found cocaine, oxycodone, marijuana, and multiple firearms.
Marquis Williams, 49, was arrested at the scene and charged with several felonies.
While searching the property, officers found a 9ft alligator confined to a small, fenced area with no access to water. Bones scattered inside the enclosure suggested the beast may have been fed other animals.
Further investigation revealed evidence of a dog fighting ring, including equipment, trophies, and instructional materials.
Dozens of canines were found chained and locked in cramped enclosures. Many were suffering from open wounds, infections, and extreme neglect, with some covered in feces and fleas.
Animal control officers also discovered young raccoons and turtles living in similar unsanitary conditions.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sent a nuisance alligator trapper to safely remove the reptile.
Footage shows the rescuer wrangling the creature with a control stick.
Marquis faces multiple charges, including nine counts of animal abuse, three counts of promoting dog fighting, illegal possession of an alligator and a firearm, possession of cocaine, opium, and marijuana with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
