Bakersfield, United States - June 11, 2025 06/11/2025 12:00 am GMT-0700 LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Large crowds have gathered for the fifth consecutive day in downtown Los Angeles to protest federal immigration enforcement actions, leading to mass arrests and a temporary shutdown of the 101 Freeway. The demonstrations, sparked by recent ICE raids and President Trump’s order to federalize up to 2,000 California National Guard troops, have focused on federal buildings, including the Metropolitan Detention Center and the ICE offices on Los Angeles Street. Throughout the week, law enforcement maintained a heavy presence in the city center. The Los Angeles Police Department remained on tactical alert, restricting movement at key intersections and freeway ramps to control the escalating protests. By nightfall, the LAPD declared an unlawful assembly outside the ICE building and ordered demonstrators to disperse. Many refused, leading to several arrests as tensions escalated. U.S. Northern Command confirmed that approximately 700 Marines from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, based in Twentynine Palms, are deployed to assist National Guard troops in protecting federal facilities and personnel in Los Angeles. Since this week, property damage has intensified, with California Highway Patrol and LAPD vehicles vandalized, Waymo autonomous taxis set on fire, and storefronts smashed along major downtown corridors. City and federal officials have not indicated when the military presence will be scaled back. Meanwhile, organizers state demonstrations will continue until ICE raids cease and federal forces withdraw from Los Angeles. Earlier this evening, a store doing business as "Bowls" was vandalized. LAPD received reports of a shooting near the intersection of San Pedro Street and 1st Street. Officers arrived and located a broken window at "Bowls." They learned the suspects were in a newer model silver vehicle last seen heading south on San Pedro. Officers subsequently located the vehicle and detained the suspects. According to Sgt. Contreras on scene, one window was shot out by what appears to be a BB gun, and no merchandise was taken from the location.
