The demonstrations, sparked by last week’s ICE raids and amplified by President Trump’s order to federalize up to 2,000 California National Guard troops, have centered around federal buildings, including the Metropolitan Detention Center and the ICE offices on Los Angeles Street. Throughout the week, law enforcement maintained a heavy presence across the city’s center. The Los Angeles Police Department remained on tactical alert, with officers restricting movement at key intersections and freeway ramps to contain the escalating protests. By nightfall, LAPD declared an unlawful assembly outside the ICE building and ordered demonstrators to disperse. Many refused, leading to several arrests as tensions boiled over. U.S. Northern Command confirmed that approximately 700 Marines from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, based in Twentynine Palms, remain deployed to assist National Guard troops in protecting federal facilities and personnel in Los Angeles.
