The pilgrims, many of whom traveled from Türkiye to Mecca via Jeddah, began their journey to Medina—their second sacred destination—after fulfilling their Hajj obligations. Medina, also known as "Medina the Radiant" (Medina al-Munawwarah), holds a revered status in Islam as the city that embraced the Prophet Muhammad after his migration (Hijra) from Mecca. It is home to key Islamic landmarks, including the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi). Located in the Hijaz region, approximately 450 kilometers north of Mecca, Medina remains a spiritual center for Muslims worldwide. Upon arrival, pilgrims settled into their hotels before heading to Masjid an-Nabawi to pay their respects at the Sacred Chamber (Hujra-i Saadet), which contains the tombs of the Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr, and Umar. Using a mobile app to secure entry permits, pilgrims also performed prayers and supplications in Rawdah al-Jannah (the Blessed Garden), the highly revered area between the Prophet’s tomb and his pulpit. In addition to prayers at Masjid an-Nabawi, pilgrims are visiting several other significant sites in and around Medina. These include Mount Uhud, the site of the Battle of Uhud, a pivotal moment in early Islamic history, located about 5 kilometers from the city. They are also visiting Masjid al-Qiblatayn, known as the Mosque of the Two Qiblas, where the direction of prayer (qibla) was changed from Jerusalem to Mecca. Another key site is Quba Mosque, the first mosque in Islam, built by the Prophet upon his arrival in Medina. Pilgrims are also exploring the Seven Mosques (Masajid al-Sab’a), a group of small mosques historically used as watchtowers during the Battle of the Trench, as well as Masjid al-Jumu’ah, the Friday Mosque, marking the spot where the Prophet led the first Jumu’ah prayer in Medina. The visit to Medina marks the final spiritual journey for many Hajj pilgrims before returning to their home countries. Reporting by Sabri Kesen, Esra Hacioglu Writing by Sibel Uygun
