Large plume of smoke seen from Ahmedabad Airport terminal after plane crash
The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick took off from Ahmedabad, western India, at 13:38 local time before crashing outside of the airport perimeter just seconds later.
Tracking from Flight Radar shows the plane reached an altitude of just 625ft before flight data was lost.
Air India have confirmed on X that there were 230 passengers and 12 crew on board flight AI171 - including 53 British nationals, 169 Indian nationals, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals.
