DERIDDER, La. — The DeRidder Police Department has launched phase one of a new traffic camera project aimed at improving public safety and supporting accident investigations.

Currently installed at three main intersections, the cameras are not being used for automated traffic enforcement, officials said. Instead, they assist in determining the cause of crashes. Citations may be issued following a review of footage if a traffic violation is confirmed.

The department is working to expand the program to give its Dispatch Center the ability to monitor traffic flow during critical incidents. A recent clip released by police shows multiple collisions at one intersection over a three-month span, highlighting the need for improved visibility and situational awareness.
