US: US Senator Alex Padilla forcibly removed from Homeland security chief's news conference in Los Angeles
SHOTLIST: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (JUNE 12, 2025) (PADILLA PRESS OFFICE - RESTRICTED) (MUST CREDIT PADILLA PRESS OFFICE, EDITORIAL USE ONLY) 1. US SENATOR ALEX PADILLA BEING FORCIBLY REMOVED SCRIPT US Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from a press conference being held by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles on Thursday. Video of the incident taken by Fox News showed multiple men restraining Padilla, a Democrat senator representing the state of California, and forcefully removing him from the room where Noem's news conference was being held. "I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary," Padilla said as he was being dragged out of the room. As he is being thrown out through the doors, he can be heard saying, "Hands off!" Noem said she planned to speak with Padilla after her news conference. "When I leave here, I’ll have a conversation with him, but I think everyone would agree that wasn’t appropriate," Noem said after the incident took place. "When I leave here, I’ll find him and visit and find out really what his concerns were," she continued. "I think everybody in America would agree that that wasn’t appropriate, that if you wanted to have a civil discussion, especially as a leader, a public official, that you would reach out and try to have a conversation," she said. After watching a video of the incident, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from the state of New York questioned what had happened. "I just saw something that sickened my stomach, the manhandling of a United States Senator," said Schumer. "We need immediate answers to what the hell went on." Padilla’s effort to question Noem comes as US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have conducted widespread raids across Los Angeles, leading to multiple protests that have taken place in the nation's second largest city starting last Friday. President Donald Trump has since deployed both the California National Guard and US Marines to protect ICE agents as they carry out their immigration raids.
