Rioters hurl petrol bombs at police in Northern Ireland
Rioters hurled petrol bombs at police in Northern Ireland amid protests over an alleged sexual assault case.
Footage shows a large plume of smoke rising into the sky in Ballymena on June 9, with emergency responders on the ground working to control the situation.
The unrest began after a demonstration near the site of the reported incident, located around 30 minutes from Belfast, escalated into public disorder.
Authorities confirmed that missiles were thrown at officers and that property was damaged. Thirty-two personnel were reportedly injured.
Chief Superintendent Sue Steen said: 'We are urging everyone to remain calm and to act responsibly. Violence and disorder will only place people at greater risk. Our priority is to keep the community safe.'
Earlier, police announced that two 14-year-old boys had been charged in connection with the case in the Clonavon Terrace area.
Officials have launched an investigation into property damage in the town, which is being examined as a possible racially motivated hate crime.
