An injured owl was released back into the wild after recovering at a wildlife centre in Colorado.

The great horned owl arrived at the Frisco Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Del Norte earlier in March.

Authorities said the bird was not only wounded but also underweight when it was first brought in.

Wildlife experts provided cage rest and flight conditioning as part of its recovery process.

After several months of care, the creature was successfully released on Friday, June 6, near Creede.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife - Monte Vista said: 'Watch as it gives us one last look before flying off back into the wild.'

The great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) is a large, powerful bird of prey native to the Americas. Known for its distinctive feathered horns, deep hooting call, and piercing yellow eyes, it is a top predator that hunts everything from rabbits to other birds.
