Iran - June 13, 2025 On June 13th, journalist Mehdi Beik from Etemad published a video of the building where Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari, a faculty member of the Nuclear Engineering Faculty, lived. The footage revealed the aftermath of an Israeli attack. Beik reported from Patrice Lumumba district, Abshoori Street. He said it was difficult to film the site of the assassination of Zolfaghari. Firefighters were digging to recover the body of Parsa, a 25-year-old soldier who had come home on leave. Beik spoke with Parsa’s aunt, who was weeping in despair. Israel launched major strikes on Iran, targeting military officials and nuclear scientists. Iranian authorities confirmed multiple deaths. In response, Iran launched 100 drones. Israel struck several nuclear and military sites in a Friday morning assault. Later, local media confirmed a second wave of strikes in Tabriz. By Friday afternoon, Iran’s Fars news agency reported unofficial numbers: over 70 killed and more than 320 injured. Fears of a broader regional war grew. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei vowed retribution, warning Israel of a “bitter and painful” fate. He said Iran’s armed forces would not leave the attack unpunished. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the operation targeted Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure. Confirmed strike locations include: Tehran and nearby military sites. Natanz, home to a major uranium enrichment facility. Tabriz, where a nuclear research center and two military bases were hit. Isfahan, Arak, and Kermanshah were also attacked. Social media images showed widespread destruction, including to residential buildings. Israel stated it damaged underground parts of the Natanz facility, including centrifuge halls and electrical systems. They claimed the strike disrupted Iran’s nuclear weapon development. Iran said radioactive material from Natanz had been contained and no casualties occurred at that site. Later that day, Israel announced more strikes on Iran’s surface-to-surface missile systems. Dozens of launchers and military sites were destroyed.
