New York City – On June 14, 2025, thousands of protesters filled Fifth Avenue in a massive demonstration against former President Donald Trump, part of the nationwide “No Kings” movement challenging authoritarianism, corruption, and militarization of politics.

Captured in striking footage by @CindyGallop, the protest moved through Manhattan toward Madison Square Park, echoing historical gatherings but with a markedly different message. Organizers and participants invoked the contrast with the infamous 1939 Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden—once a symbol of authoritarian flirtation in America—by reclaiming the space for pro-democracy action.

The event coincided with Flag Day and Trump’s 79th birthday, which the former president had marked with a military parade in Washington, D.C. Protesters viewed the parade as a symbol of authoritarian excess, prompting mass mobilization across the country, with the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) calling the NYC protest a vital response to rising threats against democratic institutions.

Signs, chants, and banners emphasized the movement’s core message: “Power belongs to the people, not to kings.” Demonstrators also criticized Trump’s political allies and policies, highlighting concerns over erosion of civil liberties and growing government overreach.

Saturday’s protest in New York stood as one of the largest in the country—an emphatic declaration of public resistance and a reaffirmation of democratic values in one of the nation’s most iconic public forums.
