Pune, Maharashtra –
Six tourists have died and several others are feared missing after a bridge over the swollen Indrayani River collapsed on Sunday in Pune district's Kundmala, a popular monsoon tourist spot.

According to officials, around 15 to 20 people were on the bridge at the time of the collapse. The sudden incident caused them to fall into the river, which had been flowing in full spate following heavy rains in the region over the past two days.

Rescue operations are currently underway. So far, eight individuals have been pulled from the water alive, while two women remain trapped under the debris. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and local authorities are at the site.

The incident occurred in the Maval area of Pune rural, where an orange alert remains in effect for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, with authorities warning of more heavy rainfall in the ghat regions.

Local residents say they had raised safety concerns about the structure, which was reportedly renovated 4–5 years ago. However, many tourists visiting the site were unaware of the potential risk.

Authorities have urged people to avoid riverbanks and dilapidated structures amid continued rainfall.
