RAGNA VRANKEN'S DAUGHTER, TARO RUTTEN SPEAKING TO REPORTER BRUSSELS, BELGIUM - JUNE 15: Tens of thousands of protesters wearing red clothing gathered in Brussels on Sunday, calling on European governments to impose sanctions on Israel and draw a "red line" over its actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Crowds assembled at the North Train Station from 1 p.m. local time, waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans such as “All red lines have been crossed in Gaza” and “It’s time for sanctions against Israel.” The demonstrators marched through the city in a peaceful protest organized by Belgian NGO 11.11.11, which coordinated the event with more than 150 civil society organizations. Ahead of the march, popular Belgian-Egyptian singer Tamino performed alongside other artists in support of the cause. Many children were seen among the demonstrators, holding signs and chanting with their families. Kenny Van Minsel, spokesperson for 11.11.11, told Anadolu Agency that the protest was a response to what he described as a “genocide broadcast live on our screens for the past 20 months,” criticizing European political inaction. “We can’t turn a blind eye anymore,” he said. Protesters called for accountability and tougher political measures. Maroye Veronique, one of the demonstrators, said, “I can’t accept what’s happening anymore. This is also a message to our Belgian politicians: Stop. You have a people, they’re asking you for something, and you’re not listening.” Ragna Vranken, who joined the protest with her 10-year-old daughter, added, “What Israel is doing to people in Gaza and the West Bank is horrific. Not just Belgium, but the EU must act and impose sanctions.” Her daughter, Taro Rutten, echoed the demand, saying, “They need to stop the war in Gaza and punish Israel.” This is our red line.”
