Seville, Spain - June 13, 2025 A woman bravely fought off a man who attacked her from behind in an attempted robbery in the town of Brenes, Sevilla. The assault was caught on street security cameras. The footage shows the woman walking alone early in the morning when a man in shorts and a hooded sweatshirt suddenly approached from behind. He grabbed her by the neck using a chokehold known as the "mataleon" technique, trying to immobilize her and steal her purse. She resisted fiercely, and both fell violently to the ground. The woman struck her head on the asphalt but continued fighting as the man tried to pull the purse from her hands. Unable to steal anything more, the attacker managed only to take her mobile phone before running away. The woman suffered injuries from the struggle and was treated at a health center. She reported the attack, and investigators from the Guardia Civil identified the suspect. He was a resident of Brenes who had been hiding in the city of Sevilla. Officers arrested him at the home where he had taken refuge. Authorities also linked him to another theft and believe he may be responsible for other assaults still under investigation.
