A routine climb down a snow-covered peak turned into a life-threatening ordeal when Justin and his friends attempted to slide down the snow for a faster descent, only to lose control in the process.

As Justin struggled to self-arrest, his buddy below him jumped on top of him in an attempt to stop the fall. But the effort failed, and both tumbled off a cliff, crashing into the rugged terrain below.

Once Justin reached the bottom, his vision blurred, nausea set in, and concern grew over possible internal injuries. Search and rescue were immediately called, and Rangers were deployed to assess the scene before deciding to airlift them out for emergency medical care.
At the hospital, Justin was diagnosed with a serious concussion, but no internal bleeding, a fortunate outcome given the circumstances. Reflecting on the incident, he admitted that if he had attempted to climb down on his own, he likely would have fallen even further.

Well, essentially I was climbing down from a peak in the Tetons and we were kind of sliding down the snow to get down a little bit faster and couldn’t self arrest we lost control. My buddy below me saw me lose control and jumped on top of me to try to stop me. It didn’t work and we both tumbled off the cliff. when I got down, I couldn’t see out of my left eye everything was blurry and I was extremely nauseous so we decided to call search and rescue. They came and assessed the situation. They decided that we need to be air lifted out due to possible internal bleeding so they landed some Rangers on the cliff with us and then airlifted us out and then I got to go to the hospital. Luckily there is no internal bleeding, but I did have a serious concussion and if I would’ve tried to climb down the mountain on my own, I definitely would’ve fallen further.
