Pet dog left hanging by rope over canal saved just in time
This is the dramatic moment a dog left hanging by its neck was rescued by a neighbour in Thailand.
Footage shows the hapless pet pooch suspended from its leash above a murky canal as hero local Anusorn Boonpitak, 38, waded across the filthy water to save it in Nakhon Pathom on Saturday.
Anusorn lifted the trembling canine and placed it onto its perch - a wooden platform built on the canal embankment. To calm its nerves, the kind resident gently patted the terrified pooch, which had been left alone at home by its owner.
Anusorn, who lives across the street, said he heard someone shouting for help while he was cooking in his kitchen.
He said: 'I went outside and found the puppy hanging from its chain. Its condition seemed bad, so at that moment I decided to rescue it, knowing that the owner was away. I'm sure he didn't want this to happen.
‘Because the owner was not home, I first called the Subdistrict Administrative Organisation asking for permission to help the dog.
‘I lifted it up and checked briefly on its condition to confirm it was safe before I returned home. I've been monitoring its condition since yesterday, and it's doing well. I don't think there's any reason to worry.'
The pet dog was tied to a wooden post and is believed to have rolled off the edge of the platform while resting.
The Watchdog Thailand Foundation, an animal welfare organisation, warned pet owners to be careful where they tether the animals.
The nonprofit said: 'Don't tie it to any high beams like this because the dog might jump and end up hanging itself. This dog survived because of the kindness of a compassionate human being.'
