Woman squeezes herself through tiny five-and-a-half-inch gap to rescue kittens
A woman squeezed herself into a gap just five inches wide to rescue four tiny kittens trapped between two walls.
Kate Lewis, 26, was called to Cayton, North Yorkshire, after locals spotted a mother cat being harassed by feral tomcats and foxes.
In an effort to protect her litter, the cat had hidden them in a narrow space between two walls but they were still at risk from predators.
Kate, who runs Filey Cat Rescue with her parents, managed to wriggle into the gap, barely wider than her size five-and-a-half foot, and carefully pulled the kittens out one by one.
Kate, an animal rescuer from Scarborough, North Yorkshire said: "Once I set my mind on something, there's no going back. "
"I knew I could get in there and save them. "
"It was the only way they'd get out safely."
"It was tiny, my foot got completely wedged in the gap but I twisted my feet sideways and went in."
"We'd been called by a concerned member of the public who noticed the mother cat was being attacked by other strays and wildlife. "
"The mum had done her best to keep them safe, but other cats were jumping in and trying to attack the kittens. "
"The neighbours were really concerned. "
"We knew we had to act quickly."
Kate and her parents first trapped the mother cat, who was feral and wary of humans.
Once she was safe, Kate followed the path she had been using and found the kittens tucked away between the walls.
Kate said: "They were healthy, just a little hungry. "
"We fed them, cared for them at the centre, and once they were old enough, they were all neutered and rehomed including the mum."
The video was filmed in 2022.
