Italy - June 17, 2025 At 8:45 a.m. on June 17, four activists from the movement BURN IT ALL carried out a peaceful civil resistance action in Flaminio Square. Three of them tied themselves together using red yarn wrapped around their waists. Their arms and legs were uncovered, revealing names written on their skin—names of all the victims of femicide and transicide in Italy in 2025. They walked slowly to the center of the square, still connected by the red thread. Once there, they performed a die-in, lying on the ground as if dead. After two minutes, they rose one by one and explained the purpose of their nonviolent demonstration. To close the action, they chanted together: “We are the loud and fierce cry of all of us who no longer have a voice.” By 8:55 a.m., the activists had left the square. During the demonstration, they declared: “We are BURN IT ALL and we are here for a nonviolent action. We want to remember our siblings, victims of femicide and transicide since the beginning of 2025. Self-determination can also come from economic independence, but that remains a dream, as the Freedom Income does not function as it should. Freedom is the highest banner we can carry. We are here to remember our siblings who found death in seeking that freedom. For every murdered sibling, there will always be a movement striking back!” They then read aloud the names of those killed by femicide and transicide in 2025. Since the start of the year, 28 confirmed cases have been recorded in the country, not counting ongoing investigations or failed attempts. Their bodies became a medium for tribute—a visible cry for justice. The Mexican song Song Without Fear echoed in spirit, representing all the women, trans, and non-binary people who face patriarchal violence. “We are all tied by a red thread that keeps us close—even in violence, even in death, and especially in the fight.” BURN IT ALL describes itself as a transfeminist liberation movement, determined to end a patriarchal system that oppresses and kills. They denounce the government's inaction and society’s refusal to begin a cultural transformation. Education and legislation must change, they insist, to ensure safety and freedom for all gender identities.
