Air India passengers were left furious after their flight was deboarded amid crash fears.

Footage shows angry travellers inside the plane after being told that their scheduled flight was cancelled on Tuesday, June 17.

Local media reported that the flight from Mumbai to Lucknow was abandoned due to 'operational reasons'.

However, the issue raised fears among nervous passengers, coming just days after the flag carrier's Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed in Gujarat, killing all but one of those onboard.

One passenger said: 'My mother was travelling on Air India AI2491. The flight was scheduled to depart at 6:50 pm.

'She was deboarded after more than three hours. No meals were provided. She is a diabetic patient travelling alone. There was no sign of when the next flight would be available.'

Shamaila said the flight crew claimed the pilot was not available. The passengers when then deboarded and 'left stranded' for more than six hours.

Air India said the flight was cancelled due to weather delays affecting the number of hours staff are allowed to fly.

They said in a statement: 'AI2491 from Mumbai to Lucknow on 17 June 2025 was cancelled due to operational reasons and the cascading impact of flights which were diverted during the heavy rains in Delhi.

'Delayed arrival of diverted flights led to the operating crew coming under regulatory flight duty time limitations norms. Replacement crew could not be immediately arranged due to the weather-related delays and disruptions.'

On the same day, a flight bound for Mumbai from San Francisco was delayed, and passengers were asked to disembark during an interim stop in Kolkata due to an engine malfunction.

The Boeing 777-200LR, operating as flight AI180, arrived in Kolkata at 12:45 am as scheduled, but upon landing, the crew detected an issue with the left engine.

Although the aircraft was due to depart for Mumbai at 2 am, the flight was postponed, and passengers were asked to disembark at approximately 5:20 am.

Local media reported that seven international flights were also cancelled on Tuesday, including services to London, Paris, Vienna, and Dubai.

The incident came just days after the deadly crash of Air India Flight 171 on June 12, when a Boeing 787 Dreamliner burst into flames approximately 30 seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport en route to London Gatwick.

Just one person from the 244 onboard survived.

The jet smashed into the doctors' hostel of BJ Medical College, sending debris, smoke and fire hundreds of feet into the air, and turning the whole area into what looked like a war zone.

Authorities have confirmed the death toll has risen to 270. An investigation into the cause of the tragedy is ongoing.
